Known to many fans of rock 'n roll is the story of how blues legend Robert Johnson met the devil at the crossroads of highways 49 and 61 whereupon he sold his soul. This painting stands as the centerpiece of the "Xrds" paintings. With the title painted as an amibigram, the allusion to the Christian cross in either the upright or reversed position indicates how any decision or deal made at some crossroads or juncture can be characterized as good or bad, exalted or humble.
